Metro Atlanta is dealing with dangerous heat, one of the city’s most recognizable buildings is getting a major makeover and a new Hollywood movie filmed in the area is arriving in theaters.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Metro Atlanta from noon until 8 p.m. Friday as temperatures and humidity combine to create dangerous conditions.
Residents are being encouraged to limit strenuous outdoor work and exercise during the hottest part of the day. The heat has already affected local schools, with Clayton County Schools canceling outdoor activities to help protect students from the extreme temperatures.
Meanwhile, a major change is coming to Atlanta’s skyline.
Bank of America Plaza, one of the city’s most recognizable skyscrapers, is undergoing a $70 million renovation. The project is expected to bring new public spaces to the building, including a restaurant, market and café.
The most exciting addition could give Atlantans a completely new view of the city. Plans call for an observation deck, which would be the first of its kind in Atlanta.
Atlanta is also getting another reminder of why it remains known as the “Hollywood of the South.”
Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor star in the sci-fi thriller “The End of Oak Street,” which arrives in theaters Friday. The movie follows a suburban neighborhood thrown into an extraordinary prehistoric survival situation after a mysterious event changes their world. The film was shot in part in Atlanta.
