There are some movie characters that are so iconic fans can’t imagine any other actors in that role. Yet, every once in a while the other actors up for the part are revealed, stunning fans as they try to imagine the film in another way.
For many, one of those roles is Tom Hanks’ character in the movie "Big." However, actress Elizabeth Perkins recently revealed the part was originally set to be played by another acting legend.
Speaking about her role in the 1988 comedy classic in an interview on "Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen," Elizabeth Perkins dropped a bombshell many fans weren’t expecting, NME reports.
According to the actress, Robert De Niro was originally picked for Tom Hanks’ role in the film.

“It fell apart because he had a scheduling conflict, and then they went to Tom Hanks. It’s like a totally different movie in my brain with Robert De Niro,” said Perkins.

The actress claimed the film was originally “a little more of a horror movie,” with De Niro attached, saying the actor’s portrayal was “more moody” than Hanks’ version.
Many fans were stunned by this revelation, as most couldn’t imagine the film any other way. Luckily for many childhoods, the film went to Hanks instead of De Niro for that softer, more feel-good touch.
