Not his first time kicking off the show, Eminem opened the VMAs in 2010 with Rihanna performing their collab, “Love the Way You Lie," which is just one of his many memorable VMA performances. A list which undoubtedly includes 2000’s “The Real Slim Shady”/ “The Way I Am” performance, as well his most recent performance of “From the D 2 The LBC” with Snoop Dogg in 2022.
Tied with Peter Gabriel for the most wins by a solo male artist in VMA history, Eminem has racked up eight nominations this year including “Video of the Year,” “Best Hip-Hop,” “Song of the Summer,” and brand new category “VMAs Most Iconic Performance” for his aforementioned legendary medley of “Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am,” which included a procession of 100+ bleach blonde Eminem look-a-likes.
With Eminem’s addition to the roll call, he joins the already impressive list of top-tier performers including Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, Rauw Alejandro. Halsey, LISA, Benson Boone, Lenny Kravitz, Anitta, KAROL G, LL COOL J, and Shawn Mendes.
Set to receive one of MTV's top honors, the coveted Video Vanguard Award, Katy Perry will also perform a show-stopping, career-spanning medley of her biggest hits -- and Megan Thee Stallion will be making “Hot Girl History” as this year’s host.
The 2024 MTV VMAs will air LIVE from UBS Arena on Wednesday, September 11 at 8PM ET/PT.
