The 40-year-old welcomed some big-time guests and shared a few major musical moments with a live audience at her fresh, New York studio.

One of those stars helping to help kick off the show’s 4th season was Country music’s Garth Brooks. Both Brooks and Clarkson ended up dazzling the audience with an off-the-cusp duet of Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind.”

“I know it’s a downgrade from Billy Joel,” Clarkson teased of Brooks signing with her.

The duet was fitting in more ways than one. Not only was it a perfect way to break in Kelly’s fresh NY studio, but it’s also the same song Garth  performed at his historic 1997 concert in Central Park for more than 1 million fans.

The mid-interview duet wasn’t the only big music moment during the show. Clarkson also kicked things off with an epic medley of songs as an ode to the “Kellyoke” segment she starts each show with.

Featured songs in the medley included Madonna’s, “Music,” Aretha Franklin’s “Freeway Of Love,” Willie Nelson’s “On The Road Again,” and Taylor Swift’s “Welcome To New York.” Watch the medley below.

Along with the new season comes a new time for the show as it fills the afternoon space left vacant after the conclusion of the Ellen Degeneres Show.
