Lorde is officially teasing her fourth album in her latest social media posts, hinting at something called “L4”.

Lorde has always been known for being hyper-artistic and abstract, which she herself noted as a kind of ‘strangeness.’ Her social media presence is no different, and now, has people talking about a new album release.
We haven’t seen much from Lorde since 2021’s Solar Power (give or take the occasional single.) But this morning, the singer cleared out her Instagram account and left one new post. It’s a series of seemingly unrelated photos but with a particularly interesting caption. Cryptic as ever, Lorde used various unique characters and emojis like the copyright and recycling symbols. The most frequently used characters spelled out “L4”- perhaps as in Lorde’s 4th album…?
“Use the existing tools wherever possible,” Lorde wrote. “If the tools do not exist you are spiritually obligated to create them.” It’s hard to say what she means or what these new ‘tools’ are- perhaps new songs, new instruments, or new production gear. Either way, it’s time to get ready for a new ‘creation’ from Lorde.
In addition to the new Instagram look and post, the 27-year old singer also changed her bio. It now reads as the following: “THE THEMES ARE ALWAYS THE SAME— A RETURN TO INNOCENCE— THE MYSTERIES OF THE BLOOD— AN ITCH FOR THE TRANSCENDENTAL”
While this seems quite philosophical at first, this statement makes perfect sense for Lorde. She outlines the overall themes within her albums so far: a desire to not grow up, the complications of people and relationships, and the yearning for something greater. And then, in saying that these ideas are ‘always the same,’ Lorde seems to hint that we can expect similar thoughts to resurface in the new album too.
Both this bio change and cryptic post are a follow up to her teaser from last December. Lorde was pictured sprawling out while wearing headphones and cheekily captioned the post, “listening to myself.” Then, hidden in a fan reply, the singer admitted that she wasn’t on the brink of posting new music, but did start the process. “We’re not CLOSE close you guys.. I’m just getting hype n needed to let you know,” she wrote at the time. “We building stamina for this next chapter.”
Fans have also taken note of her various newsletters, and even the performance of new ‘untitled’ songs during her live show at Boardmasters Festival. Hopefully this ‘next chapter’ is coming soon!
