As Swifties have long known, Taylor is a huge cat person. She owns three felines, all of which have been in multiple music videos with her. In fact, her last kitten Benjamin was adopted by Taylor when filming her own “Me!” music video.
Perhaps the most popular and famous of her cats, however, is her white Scottish Fold Olivia Benson- named after the Law and Order: SVU television character. Since her adoption in 2014, Olivia has amassed her own cat-Swiftie army and is essentially a celebrity in her own right. The Ultimate Pet Rich List by Cats.com, and that is indeed a real thing, named Olivia as the 2023 third richest pet in the world with a $97 million net worth. (That’s over twice as large as new beau Travis Kelce’s estimated net worth, not that we’re keeping track or anything).
Now, the actress who played SVU’s Olivia Benson is giving Taylor and her cat a major nod of approval. She announced the adoption of her own kitten this week and returned the favor by naming it after Swift. Step aside Whiskers, Karma's on the catwalk now.
Sharing a picture of what appears to be a Siamese kitten, Mariska Hargitay wrote on Instagram, “Karma is a Cat @taylorswift Meet Karma. My Cat. #MeAndKarmaVibeLikeThat #AndIKeepMySideOfMyPawClean #KarmaIsACat.” Clearly, the kitten is named after Taylor Swift’s massive hit “Karma” and its lyrics “Karma is a cat / purring in my lap ’cause it loves me.” The 59-year-old actress and Swift are on another level of friendship at this point, going from music video and tour guest to cat sisters.
Congratulations on your new furry friend Hargitay!
