Today, the friends released a new collaboration titled, “Lonely Road,” which samples John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” from 1971. Along with the song, the pair released a music video that features themselves alongside their well-known significant others; Bunnie Xo and Megan Fox.
“We worked on ‘Lonely Road’ for 2 years,” Jelly shared in an Instagram post about the song. “8 different studios, 4 different countries, changed the key 4 times, and [today] you’ll hear we finally got it right.”
The Country-leaning collab has fans wondering if MGK could be the next mainstream artist to take a dip in the Country pool following others including Beyoncè, Post Malone and more. The Alternative Rocker/Rapper recently gave fans a glimpse at his Country side with a cover of Zach Bryan’s track "Sun To Me," and now with a nod to “Country Roads” fans have even more reason to believe there’s more southern-inspired sounds to come.
Whether he’s in for a full-blown Country project or not, there’s no doubt he’s been spending a lot of time in Nashville recently — which could be influencing new music. Earlier this year, Jelly confirmed he and MGK were working on one collaboration together in addition to another he referred to as “something big” involving MGK, Travis Barker and Yungblud.
"I could see MGK doing more than one collaboration [with me],” Jelly said at the time. “That's my guy. We might have something cooking,” he stated before confirming he, MGK, Travis Barker and Yungblud are working on “something big” together.
MGK hasn’t denied anything and recently stated, "I'm in the kitchen, and it's southern fried.” He was also a performer at Blake Shelton’s Bar during CMA Fest — the largest Country music festival in the world.
Sounds like there’s definitely more to come, but for now, fans will have “Lonely Road” to hold on to.
