Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are honoring their late grandmother on Mother’s Day in the UK.
Even though Prince William’s children never got to meet his mother, Princess Diana, as she passed away before they were born, the grandchildren honor her every year.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared handwritten notes and drawings from the children dedicated to “Granny Diana.”
“This year Mother’s Day will be different once again,” the caption from the @KensingtonRoyal Instagram account read referring to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Many of us will be apart from our loved ones, but looking forward to a time in the not too distant future when we can give our mother a hug again. But for those experiencing bereavement, today may be particularly challenging,” the post continued.
"Each year on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte and Louis make cards remembering their Granny, Diana, for William. Whatever your circumstances, we are thinking of you this Mother’s Day 💐,” the post concluded.
7-year-old George colored the first drawing of a sunny day and nature.
“Dear Granny Diana, Happy Happy mothers day. I love you very much and think of you always, Sending lots of love from George,” his handwritten note reads.
Princess Charlotte’s card featured a rainbow heart.
In her note, the 5-year-old wrote: “Dear Granny Diana, I am thinking of you on Mother’s DayI love you very much. Papa is missing you. Lots of love Charlotte.”
Prince Louis, who is set to turn 3 years old next month, seemingly embraced a style of finger-painting to fill in his heart-shaped masterpiece. He also included animal stickers and simply signed his name in the bottom corner.
Per TODAY, the cards will be given to William, who was just 15 when his mother died in a tragic car accident in 1997.
In a previous interview with BBC One, William revealed that he often tells his children about their grandmother while putting them to bed. He said he tries to “remind them that there are two grandmothers, there were two grandmothers in their lives," adding, "It’s important that they know who she was and that she existed.
In addition to showing off their art skills, the children dabbled in some baking for their mother, Kate Middleton. The Duke and Duchess’ official Twitter shared a cake made by the trio alongside a photo of a young Kate and her mom with the caption: “Celebrating two other special mothers today.”
