Unlike previous musicals-turned-movies in the past, “Wicked is just the first chapter of a two-part immersive, cultural celebration,” as the official press release states. And thus, no songs were omitted from the tracklist.
YES! — Every single Stephen Schwartz written and composed song from Act One of the Broadway musical's original 2003 score is featured on the soundtrack for Wicked: Part One, like you've never heard them before!
From Ariana Grande‘s magical version of “Popular,” to Cynthia Erivo‘s iconic renditions of “Defying Gravity” and “The Wizard and I.” The first two of which you can hear now on your favorite Audacy Pop stations. It even includes a bonus track, “Ozdust Duet,” featuring orchestrations from Elphaba and Glinda’s dance during one of the soundtrack’s other featured tracks, “Dancing Through Life.”
In addition to Grande and Erivo, the soundtrack also features the musical talents of Glinda and Elphaba role originators Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel on “Short Day.” Plus, Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Shiz University’s regal headmistress Madame Morrible, Emmy nominee Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers) as the roguish and carefree prince Fiyero, Tony nominee Ethan Slater (Broadway’s Spongebob Squarepants) as altruistic Munchkin student Boq, Marissa Bode in her feature-film debut as Elphaba’s favored sister Nessarose, and (no introduction needed) Jeff Goldblum as the legendary Wizard of Oz.
The cast of Wicked characters also includes Pfannee and ShenShen, Glinda’s conniving compatriots played by Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Bronwyn James (Harlots). A new character created for the film, Miss Coddle, played by Tony nominee Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman), and Peter Dinklage as the voice of Dr. Dillamond.
