Country singer Thomas Rhett’s wife, Lauren Akins, is reflecting on motherhood and the difficulties of raising the couple’s children on her own.
Both 30-years-old, they share three children -- Willa, 4, Ada, 3, and Lennon Love, 6 months – and in her new book, Live in Love, Lauren explains how she “felt like a failure as a mom” after deciding to get a nanny, but eventually came to see the help she received as “a godsend.”
“Our amazing assistant not only helps us run our lives but has stepped up as a babysitter on lots of occasions,” she writes in her memoir. “At some point along the way, I had to swallow my pride and realize that I could not do this all on my own; nor could Thomas Rhett and I keep putting so much of the babysitting burden on our extended family. So we hired a nanny.”
In the book, she also explains the effect it has had on the family, saying “the relief of not having to always scramble for help has lowered the stress levels at home, and on the road. And that makes everyone happier.”
Thomas and Lauren adopted their oldest daughter, Willa, from Uganda in 2017. Akins gave birth to Ada three months later, and Lennon Love just arrived this February.
Live in Love, which pulls back the curtain on the "perfect couple" revealing what it actually takes to live in love, stay in love, and grow together, is out now. You can catch Lauren along with some special hosts during her virtual book tour this week. Details are below.
