Kevin Hart got Will Smith to open up about his biggest films.
On Hart’s Peacock interview program ‘Hart to Heart,’ Smith mentioned producer James Lassiter for convincing him to do “the 10 movies I made at the top of my career.”
According to the actor, he didn’t want to make “Pursuit of Happyness” or “Ali,” both of which got him Best Actor Oscar nominations. Lassiter convinced him.
He also said Lassiter pushed “Men In Black,” but he wasn’t feeling it.
"[Lassiter] picked 'Men In Black,'" Smith explained to Hart. "I kinda understood 'Men In Black' like a little bit, but I didn't want to make 'Men In Black' — that was the next year after 'Independence Day.' So I didn't want to make two alien movies back to back."
It wasn’t Lassiter, but one of the movie’s producers who eventually swayed Smith.
“Steven Spielberg setn a helicopter for me,” Smith responded. “To talk. It landed at his house. And he had me at ‘Hello.’”
The helicopter wasn’t all Smith marveled at during his experience with the “Jurassic Park” director.
“It was the first time I ever had lemonade with carbonated water,” he added.
Spielberg bluntly asked him, “tell me why you don’t want to make my movie…”
“He put the ellipses at the end… if he had continued, he would have said, ‘Joker, you know I made ‘Jaws,’ right? You know I made ‘E.T.’”
The rest was box office blockbuster returns.
“Hart to Heart” can be streamed via the Peacock app.
