With her time being so overdue, Cher's portion of the induction ceremony was understandably one of the most anticipated moments of the night and proved to be worth the wait. The 78-year-old was inducted into the hall by Zendaya, who stunned in a vintage ensemble from Bob Mackie's 2001 Fall Fashion collection that resembled Cher’s iconic dress from 1972.
“Thank you, Cher,” Zendaya said as she honored the music icon, while also noting her name is as iconic as her music. “Thank you for being an advocate, for being an ally, for painting the way for so many humans of all kinds to live in and speak their truth.”
Dua Lipa elevated the musical tribute to Cher as the pair performed a one-of-a-kind rendition of “Believe.”
Other honorees celebrating their own inductions included Foreigner, Dave Matthews Band, A Tribe Called Quest, Mary J. Blige, Ozzy Osbourne, Kool & the Gang, and Peter Frampton. Additionally, Musical Excellence awards were bestowed upon the late Jimmy Buffett and Motown Sound creator Norman Whitfield, as well as Michigan rockers MC5, and beloved singer and entertainer Dionne Warwick. Musical Influence awards were also given to Blues/R&B musicians Alexis Korner, John Mayall, and Big Mama Thornton, while music, film, and TV producer Suzanne de Passe received the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
