Last night’s episode of “Real Housewives of New York” offered up a clip that, for a show that routinely offers up crazy viral clips, might become one of its most iconic.
It’s definitely one of the drunkest.
In the clip, housewife Sonja Morgan, 57, chugged down an entire glass of red wine through her face mask.
The impressive feat not only made for great TV — it wowed fans and ignited countless hilarious comments on social media, as Page Six notes.
"So who had Sonja chugging wine through her face mask during an argument on the street in Salem on their 2020 bingo card? #RHONY," one viewer quipped.
“Sonja chugging wine THROUGH her mask & not missing a single drop?? icon #rhony,” another wrote. person tweeted.
Joked another, “Sonja has always been a different beast.”
Another marveled, “That was the funniest thing! Lol I didn’t even know the liquid would fully go through the mask lol I was actually so surprised LOLol.”
“This seems to defy the laws of physics- anyone have an explanation? mesh?” asked another stunned viewer.
Oddly, earlier in the show Sonja said she’s not even much of a fan of wine and prefers harder liquor, which might explain why she treated that tall glass of wine like a shot of bourbon.
And all through a mask.
Despite her admittal, Morgan does have her own wine brand, suitably named Tipsy Girl.
She’s been working that brand since 2015, so if she still doesn’t enjoy wine much, maybe she should move into fashion. A Sonja Morgan PPE mask would seem to be a very hot item right about now.
Co-star Ramona Singer probably didn’t find the vino vacuum bit quite as entertaining since it was her glass of wine that Sonja swiped. But hey, she can afford a refill.
More practical and sober Housewife, Leah McSweeney, didn’t find the sloppy trick quite as funny, as Morgan’s drinking has actually been a plot line throughout this season.
During a conversation with co-star Eboni K. Williams, McSweeney said, “Her constantly saying she doesn’t have an alcohol problem, why are you talking about it?”
The fact that the episode found the cast on a vacay to Salem, MA, added a funny layer of suspicion that there was some witchy voodoo going on.
But since it is Bastille Day today, we’ll simply say, Bonne fete!
