The Padres jumped out to an early 5-1 lead against the Rockies at Coors Field on Monday night, highlighted by Manny Machado hitting a solo homer in the 1st and Fernando Tatis Jr. hitting a 2-run blast to dead center in the 2nd inning. With the Padres leading 6-1, the Rockies began to rally. TJ Rumfield drove in a run in the 5th inning, and the Rockies added added three more in the 6th, with Jake McCarthy's 2-run triple provided the big blow. It was a back and forth between the two teams from there, with each team scoring one run in the 7th and 8th innings, making it an 8-7 Padres lead entering the 9th. After a scoreless top half of the 9th inning, Mason Miller came in to protect a one-run lead, and was able to do so, becoming the only Padres reliever not to allow a run in this wild game. Miller suffered a slight scare when a hard-hit comebacker hit him and bounced off his body, but Miller shook it off to secure his 37th save of the season.
