AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas' primary runoff election is being postponed until July 14 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued the proclamation Friday. The new election is set for the same date as a previously called special election for State Senate District 14.

The runoff election, which was originally set for May 26, will feature a number of congressional and local offices; across the state, Democrats will decide between state Sen. Royce West and former Air Force helicopter pilot MJ Hegar for the party's nomination to face Republican Sen. John Cornyn in November.

Early voting will begin July 6.
