AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other state leaders will unveil a police funding proposal Tuesday afternoon in Fort Worth.

Tuesday's announcement comes after efforts by Austin and other large cities to "defund" local police departments.

In addition to Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dennis Bonnen are expected to speak. They'll be joined by Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, State Senators Jane Nelson and Kelly Hancock, and State Representatives Charlie Geren, Craig Goldman, Stephanie Klick, and Giovanni Capriglione.

The event is scheduled to begin at noon at Fort Worth's Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex.

Following last week's action by the Austin City Council to reallocate more than $150 million away from the Austin Police Department budget, Abbott promised legislative action. "Austin’s decision puts the brave men and women of the Austin Police Department and their families at greater risk, and paves the way for lawlessness," Abbott said in a statement. "Public safety is job one, and Austin has abandoned that duty. The legislature will take this issue up next session, but in the meantime, the Texas Department of Public Safety will stand in the gap to protect our capital city."
