AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The Austin Humane Society is helping its fellow shelters along the Gulf Coast, taking in more than 200 animals in advance of Tropical Storms Laura and Marco.
The dogs, cats, and even baby squirrels are being transported to Austin as a preemptive measure, helping shelters closer to the coast by ensuring they have the room they need for relief efforts before and after the storm.
In addition to nearly 180 dogs and cats, AHS is also taking in 30 baby squirrels. Once the squirrels arrive in Austin on Tuesday, they will be taken care of by Austin Wildlife Rescue. All of the animals are coming from Woodville, Baytown, Rockport, and the Houston area.
All of the animals have come from other shelters, and will be available for adoption once they've been cleared medically. AHS is currently running a special $20 adoption fee promotion, which will be extended through the end of the month to ensure these animals find their forever homes.
Donations are also being accepted to aid in the disaster relief effort. For more information, visit the AHS website.
