Officials: Act as if community spread of COVID-19 has happened

Coronavirus

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- As the City of Austin strengthens its efforts to fight an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, health officials say residents should act as if community spread is happening.

Tuesday night, officials say the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Travis County jumped to 17, adding an additional 7 from just 24 hours earlier.

Health officials say they still don't have confirmation of any cases of community spread in Travis County. However, experts say that's almost certainly a matter of testing - or lack thereof.

Earlier Tuesday, Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt signed new orders prohibiting community gatherings of 10 people or more, and closed bars and restaurant dining rooms across the city and county through May 1.
