AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Police are investigating after human remains were found buried in concrete in the backyard of a south Austin home earlier this week.
Austin Police say 36-year old Kristie Michelle Cardenas and 22-year old Walker Ray Kaatz are facing charges of tampering with physical evidence, a second-degree felony.
Police say a 911 call came in just before 8:45 p.m. Tuesday saying a body was buried in the backyard of a home in the 5800 block of Mojave Drive, just southeast of West Stassney Lane and Menchaca Road. Officers spoke with the residents, and found a location in the backyard where a body could have been buried.
Officers returned on Wednesday with detectives and other crews, including Austin Fire and the APD Bomb Squad. By Wednesday afternoon, a body had been recovered; the remains were transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner's office for further examination.
The investigation into the case continues; police ask anyone with information to call the APD Homicide tip line at 512-974-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS.
