Business task force, Chamber unveil "City of Us" campaign

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin's business community is getting behind the effort to bend the COVID-19 curve by wearing a mask, with a new public service campaign announced Monday.

The "Austin, Let's Be A City of Us" campaign launched Monday with support from the Opening Central Texas for Business Task Force, the Austin Chamber, and Austin Mayor Steve Adler.

"Encouraging each other to maintain social distancing and wear a mask is the right thing to do and must be top of mind as we navigate this crisis," said Austin Chamber President & CEO Laura Huffman. "It is truly wonderful that so many leaders in our community from diverse backgrounds have come together to make this campaign a reality."

The campaign, created by Roy Spence of Spence Communications, encourages Austinites to be united in the commitment to wear a face mask to protect all of Austin from another spike in COVID-19. The PSA spots will begin running on television stations this week.

"Austin businesses, more than most, know the importance of wearing masks to sustain the opening of the economy," Adler said. "We’ve got to do this, we’ve got to do this together, and we’ve got to do this now."

Businesses are invited to visit www.austincityofus.com to download a free digital toolkit with shareable assets that encourage Austinites to wear a mask. The task force is also developing plans for paid sponsorships that include branded collateral.

"Austin business owners and staff are working so hard to get back on their feet again," said Spence. "When all of us wear a mask, that’s one less thing they have to worry about. A mask on each of us is a win for all of us."
