AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- We're following the latest coronavirus updates from local health officials across Central Texas, for August 18:
Travis County: Austin Public Health says a backlog of more than 2,200 lab reports from DSHS on August 13 has led to increased case reports over the last week. For Tuesday, officials reported 349 new cases and 2 new deaths, bringing the total number of cases to 24,758 with 337 deaths. 23,451 of the cases are estimated to be recovered, leaving 970 active cases - an increase of 40 from Monday.
230 patients are hospitalized across the five county metro area, with 79 in intensive care and 56 on ventilators.
23 new hospital admissions were reported Tuesday, with the 7-day moving average of new hospitalizations now at 29.
Williamson County: 99 new cases and 2 new deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 7,581 with 105 deaths. 766 cases are estimated to be active, while 71 patients are hospitalized - an increase of 2 from Monday's report. 28 of those are in intensive care and 15 are on ventilators.
Hays County: 42 new cases were reported Tuesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 5,192 with 41 deaths. 2,588 cases have recovered, leaving 2,563 active cases - a decrease of 83 from Monday. 17 patients remain hospitalized.
Bastrop County: 17 new cases were reported by DSHS Tuesday, for a total of 1,469 cases with 23 deaths.
Caldwell County: 6 new cases and 1 new death were reported by DSHS Tuesday, for a total of 1,189 cases with 30 deaths.
State of Texas: 7,282 new cases were reported Tuesday statewide, bringing the total to 550,232. 216 new deaths were reported, for a total of 10,250. The 7-day positivity rate fell to 11.18%, its lowest point since June 23. Hospitalizations across the state saw a slight bump, increasing by 10 from Monday to a total of 6,210.
