COVID-19 By The Numbers, August 23: 96 new cases in Travis County

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- We're following the latest coronavirus updates from local health officials across Central Texas, for August 23:

Travis County: 96 new cases were reported Sunday, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in Travis County to 25,736. 357 Travis County residents have died due to COVID-19. 24,500 of the cases are estimated to be recovered, leaving 879 active cases - a decrease of 28 from Saturday's report.

172 patients are hospitalized across the five county metro area, with 63 in intensive care and 40 on ventilators.

18 new hospital admissions were reported Sunday, with the 7-day moving average down slightly to 23.

Williamson County: The next report from Williamson County officials will be on Monday

Hays County: The next report from Hays County officials will be on Monday.

Bastrop County: 9 new cases were reported by DSHS on Sunday, for a total of 1,531 cases with 25 deaths.

Caldwell County: 2 new cases were reported by DSHS on Sunday, for a total of 1,210 cases with 31 deaths.

State of Texas: 3,493 new cases were reported Sunday, along with 905 backlogged cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 577,537. 104 new deaths were reported, for a total of 11,370 across the state. The 7-day positivity rate rose to 16.24%. Total COVID-19 hospitalizations across the state are down to 5,186, the lowest point since June 27.
