PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Pflugerville officials say they're closing Lake Pflugerville Park in order to enforce social distancing to help with the COVID-19 outbreak.

City officials say the closure will go into effect Monday at noon. Closures include access to the lake, fishing piers, pavilion, restrooms and trails around the lake and park.

"We are closing Lake Pflugerville to protect our community from COVID-19," Pflugerville Mayor Victor Gonzales said. "Now, more than ever, it takes the entire community working together and committing to stop the spread of this disease. When we face challenges, we overcome together. It is time to change our habits, because together we can fight this disease."

According to Travis County data, the 78660 zip code has nine cases of COVID-19.

City officials say other Pflugerville parks may be closed if overcrowding continues.
