Manor student being 'monitored' after possible coronavirus exposure

Manor High School

MANOR, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- A student in the Manor school district is being monitored for possible exposure to the coronavirus, officials announced Thursday.

According to district officials, the student at Manor High School visited the Houston Rodeo on Monday.

On Wednesday, officials with the Houston Rodeo canceled further events after a man in Montgomery County became a presumptive positive for COVID-19. That man had attended the Houston Rodeo, officials said.

Manor officials say that out of an abundance of caution, the student and parent are self-quarantining at home. They did not return to campus after visiting the rodeo, and so far are not showing any symptoms.

Manor ISD Parents, Staff and Community;

Amid ongoing fears about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we understand our shared responsibility to be diligent in preventive measures as well as communication. We wanted to inform you about an incident that we are monitoring at Manor ISD. We learned one of our students from Manor Senior High School and their parent visited the Houston Rodeo on Monday, March 9th.

They were present at the Houston Rodeo days after a man in Montgomery County visited the rodeo. The Montgomery County individual has been tested and is a presumptive positive patient with the Novel Coronavirus. The results of that test from the CDC are still pending.

While we await the results for the individual, out of an abundance of caution, the student and parent are under self-monitoring and social distancing at home. At last check both the parent and student are not showing any COVID-19 symptoms. The parent and student did not return to campus after visiting the Houston Rodeo.

Manor ISD is monitoring this situation closely and will keep everyone informed as we receive more information. We will continue to work with our local and state health officials to ensure we are familiar with the latest news surrounding COVID-19.

If you have questions or concerns, please visit the district COVID-19 information page or feel free to reach out to us via Let’s Talk!

Below is more information on social distancing and self-monitoring:

If there has been no direct known exposure to the virus then CDC is encouraging social distancing and self-monitoring vs full blown quarantine.

Self-monitoring means people should monitor themselves for fever by taking their temperatures twice a day and remain alert for cough or difficulty breathing. If they feel feverish or develop measured fever, cough, or difficulty breathing during the self-monitoring period, they should self-isolate, limit contact with others, and seek advice by telephone from a healthcare provider or their local health department to determine whether medical evaluation is needed.

Social distancing means remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.
