AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Nearly 36,000 ballots were cast in Travis County on the first day of early voting Tuesday, officials said.
The 35,873 early ballots, combined with 22,577 mail-in ballots that have already been received, represent 6.84% of the county's 855,175 registered voters.
The first day total is down just slightly from the 2016 election, when a total of 35,958 ballots were cast on the first day of early voting. Travis County voters cast a total of 350,753 ballots during early voting in 2016.
Williamson County officials reported a record turnout on the first day of early voting, with 22,707 ballots cast compared to 18,066 in 2016.
Hays County officials reported 6,868 early voting ballots being cast on Tuesday.
Early voting runs through October 30, with Election Day on November 3.
