AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Despite the violent clashes that took place in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, protests in Austin at the Texas Capitol remained largely peaceful.
The rally, with a crowd that grew into the hundreds, coincided with similar rallies taking place across the country. Protesters traveled from all over the state to rally in Austin.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says it closed the Capitol and grounds "out of an abundance of caution" after the U.S. Capitol building was breached. DPS said it made no arrests Wednesday.
In addition to DPS, Austin Police said officers were "available" to assist DPS as needed. The crowd began to gradually disperse after about 3 p.m.
