AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Schools in Pflugerville ISD will be closed through Friday, March 27, district officials announced Monday.
The move comes in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. District officials sent the following letter to parents:
Dear Parents,
As you know, Pflugerville ISD has been closely monitoring updates from our local health department, Texas Department of State Health Services (TSHS), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Texas Education Agency regarding COVID-19. At this time, hundreds of schools across the state have closed as a precaution.
Based on recent updates, and in order to help slow the spread of the virus and safeguard the well-being of our students and staff, PfISD has decided to close school from Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27. Students and staff should not return to campuses until they are notified. During this period, all PfISD facilities will be closed for instruction and all other functions until further notice, including UIL events, athletics, rentals, field trips, after-school programs, and other campus activities.
This is a very fluid situation, and we are receiving continuous updates from health authorities. Additional school closures after March 27 have not been decided at this time, but we will inform parents as soon as any decisions are made. As we learn more from our governing agencies, we will also share more information regarding student meal offerings during the closure, instructional support for students at home, state testing, and a variety of other topics.
The decision to close schools is never made lightly, and we know the impact of this closure is far-reaching. Please understand this decision was made based upon the current reality of COVID-19 activity and the recommendations and information provided by DSHS and the CDC. We will always place the safety and well-being of our students and staff as the first priority.
