AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Police say a large fight between two groups of evacuees from Hurricane Laura led to a deadly shooting in downtown Austin early Thursday.
Austin Police say the shooting happened near the Driskill Hotel at Sixth Street and Brazos Street around 12:30 a.m. Multiple 911 callers reported the fight and that shots had been fired.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a white female with a gunshot wound. She was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased at 1:03 a.m.
Police say the fight appears to have been between two groups of hurricane evacuees, one from Port Arthur and one from Beaumont. The two groups, which totaled roughly 60 people, got into an argument and individuals from both sides produced handguns. One person fired, striking the woman, who was experiencing homelessness and was an uninvolved bystander.
No suspects are in custody.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at 512-974-8477, or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-8477.
