Remains found during search for missing Fort Hood soldier

PFC Vanessa Guillen

BELL COUNTY, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Unidentified human remains have been found during a search for a missing Fort Hood soldier.

Officials said the remains were found near the Leon River in Bell County Tuesday, east of Belton. It's an area of interest in the disappearance of 20-year old Pfc. Vanessa Guillen, who was last seen on April 22.

"After receiving additional information, agents have discovered what has been described as partial human remains after analysis from a forensic anthropologist. Army CID agents are currently on scene with the Texas Rangers, the FBI and Bell County Sheriff's Department. No confirmation as to the identity of the remains has been made at this point and we ask for the media and public's understanding that the identification process can take time," an Army statement said.

Tim Miller of Texas Equusearch told several Waco media outlets that the remains were found in a shallow grave near the river, in an area the group had searched just a week ago.

While the remains are still pending identification, Miller says authorities believe they are of Guillen. Crews will be back out on Wednesday to search for additional evidence, Miller said.
