ROUND ROCK (Talk1370.com) -- Round Rock ISD trustees on Monday named Dr. Daniel Presley as the district's acting superintendent.

The move comes as current Superintendent Dr. Steve Flores prepares to step down from the role this week. His last day is December 1.

Flores has served as superintendent since 2013, and is stepping down to focus on family and other professional endeavors. He'll remain with the district in a transition role through the end of March 2021.

"I am proud and honored to serve Round Rock ISD, a District I love deeply, in this role and I appreciate the Trustees for placing their trust in me," Presley said in a statement. "This year has presented the most challenging circumstances for public education in our lifetime and I am committed to providing steady leadership during this transition."

Presley currently serves as the district's Senior Chief of Schools and Innovation and is the district's second-in-command. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Centenary College in Louisiana and his doctoral degree from Texas A&M University in College Station.

Round Rock ISD serves over 51,000 students and 6,400 staff members on 55 campuses.

Trustees will now turn to beginning a search for the district's next superintendent.
