Seven more bars face permit suspensions by TABC due to COVID-19 rule violations

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Seven more bars across the state have had their permits suspended for 30 days for violating the state's COVID-19 protocols, officials announced Sunday.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said its "Operation Safe Open" continued Saturday, with undercover investigators inspecting businesses across Texas to ensure compliance with the state's requirements.

UnBARlievable on West 6th is the third Austin-area bar to be caught up in the operation. Earlier, officials said suspensions were handed out to Buford's Backyard Beer Garden and Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot Icehouse on West 6th Street.

"Protecting the health and safety of Texans during this pandemic is our top priority," TABC Executive Director Bentley Nettles said in a statement. "We warned businesses TABC will have no tolerance for breaking the rules, and now, some bars are paying the price. I hope other establishments will learn from these suspensions."

A total of 12 bars have now had their permits suspended:

  • BARge 25, Seabrook
  • Harris House of Heroes, Dallas
  • The New PR's, Fort Worth
  • UnBARlievable (West 6th), Austin
  • Little Woodrow's, Lubbock
  • Coconuts, El Paso
  • Buford's Backyard Beer Garden, Austin (suspension issued Saturday)
  • Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot Icehouse, Austin (suspension issued Saturday)
  • Werk Bar, El Paso (suspension issued Friday)
  • Marty's Live, Dallas (suspension issued Friday)
  • Elevate Night Club, McAllen (suspension issued Friday)

Officials say the first infraction will result in up to a 30-day license suspension, with a second violation resulting in up to a 60-day suspension.
