AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- One person is dead after a shooting in downtown Austin Saturday evening.

Police said the shooting happened in the 300 block of Congress Avenue just before 10 p.m. Saturday. Officers were in the area monitoring ongoing protests.

According to several eyewitnesses, a vehicle was on Fourth Street, turned right on Congress and drove into a crowd of protesters. Protesters then surrounded the vehicle, when shots rang out.

Medics performed CPR on an adult male victim, who was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. Despite initial reports of multiple injuries, no other injuries were reported.

Eyewitnesses and police said the man was holding a rifle. The shooter was detained and is cooperating with officers.

Video posted to social media Saturday evening shows the moments leading up to the shooting.

ABC's Good Morning America interviewed Sheila Foster Sunday morning. She says her son, Garrett, was the man who was killed, and that he and his fiancé were participating in the protests Saturday night.

Police have not yet identified the victim or the shooter, and their investigation is ongoing.
