Study: Austin metro is 9th most educated in the U.S.

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- A new study ranks the Austin metro area among the top 10 most educated in the country.

The study, by personal finance site WalletHub, compared 150 metro areas across the country on 11 key metrics. The data set ranges from the share of adults aged 25 and older with a bachelor’s degree or higher to the racial education gap to the quality of the public-school system.


The Austin-Round Rock metro ranked 9th.

The top ten metro areas:

  • Ann Arbor, MI
  • San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA
  • Washington, DC-Arlington, VA-Alexandria, VA
  • Durham-Chapel Hill, NC
  • San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward, CA
  • Madison, WI
  • Boston-Cambridge, MA
  • Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA
  • Austin-Round Rock, TX
  • Bridgeport-Stamford-Norwalk, CT

Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington was the next highest-ranked Texas metro, coming in at 72nd.

Other Texas metro areas were on the bottom half of the list. Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land ranked 89th, San Antonio-New Braunfels ranked 108th, Killeen-Temple ranked 111th, El Paso ranked 135th, Corpus Christi ranked 139th, Beaumont-Port Arthur ranked 140th, McAllen-Edinburg-Mission ranked 148th, and Brownsville-Harlingen ranked 149th.
