AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Retail businesses that have been shuttered as "non-essential" across the state get their first shot at re-opening Friday, with the "retail-to-go" phase of Gov. Greg Abbott's plan getting underway.
Retail businesses that have been closed during the pandemic are now able to take customer orders online or by phone, and offer delivery or curbside pick-up.
The businesses are required to follow guidelines from state health officials, including training employees on increased cleaning and disinfection practices, screening employees for symptoms and illness, washing and sanitizing hands before and after each customer, wearing face coverings, and maintaining a six foot separation between employees.
Customers won't be allowed inside stores. Payments are recommended to be done over the phone or online if possible. Purchased items, if not being delivered, are to be placed in the back seat or trunk of the customer's vehicle.
Gov. Abbott has indicated he will announce the next steps in his plan for re-opening the state's economy on Monday.
