AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Central Health, Travis County's taxpayer-funded health district, says it's investigating a cyber attack on its systems.
Officials said the attack occurred on Friday, December 4. An investigation is underway to determine the extent of the incident, as well as what data may have been affected.
"The incident is potentially a criminal act, and we’re working closely with law enforcement in the investigation," Central Health President & CEO Mike Geeslin said in a statement. "While we do not believe employee or patient data was compromised, we’re not taking anyone’s security for granted and a thorough forensic investigation is required."
Central Health is the local public agency that connects low-income residents in Travis County with healthcare services. Operating under the Central Health umbrella are CommUnityCare Health Centers, Sendero Health Plans, and the Community Care Collaborative.
Officials say more details will be released as the investigation proceeds.
