WILLIAMSON COUNTY (Talk1370.com) -- Texas Department of Transportation officials are planning improvements to a fast-growing stretch of U.S. 79 in Round Rock, and are seeking public thoughts on the project.

The proposed project, which will stretch from Interstate 35 to just east of A.W. Grimes Boulevard, calls for adding a third travel lane in each direction and installing a raised median for the entire length of the project.

The project also calls for building an underpass at Mays Street, and an overpass at A.W. Grimes. There would also be changes to the intersection at Interstate 35, and the addition of shared-use paths on both sides of U.S. 79.

A virtual public hearing on the project will open Friday morning at 10 a.m. on the TxDOT website. To view the presentation, go to www.txdot.gov and enter the search keywords "US 79".

The public hearing continues through December 21.
