Snow showers clearing, Monday morning commute could be icy

Snowfall accumulation

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Sunday's winter storm brought some of the largest snow accumulations in years to Central Texas, with snow showers gradually clearing the area this evening.

The Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory that were in effect have been cancelled...

A number of reports indicate up to 6 inches of snow fell in Leander and portions of Williamson County, with lighter accumulations in Travis County and points south and east.

While the chance for precipitation has ended, what has already fallen is likely to refreeze overnight as temperatures fall to or slightly below the freezing mark. A number of area school districts have already chosen to delay classes for Monday.

The main travel impacts Monday morning are likely to be on elevated surfaces, including bridges and overpasses.

Austin Energy crews were busy Sunday afternoon, with more than 37,000 customers losing power at the peak of the storm. As of 5pm Sunday afternoon, crews were still working to restore power to about 33,000 customers.

Power outages were responsible for darkening a number of traffic signals across the city, with City of Austin transportation crews working to try to get the signals back up and running.

Stay tuned for further details as this forecast continues to develop, on-air and online.
