AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Capital Metro says it will suspend fare collections effective immediately as winter weather continues to grip Central Texas.

The fare suspension will be in effect through the end of the day on Tuesday, the agency says.

Officials say all vehicles are being pre-started for heat and maintenance, and track inspections are being conducted on the MetroRail lines. Bus stations, rail platforms, and overpasses and bridges are being inspected regularly and surfaces are being de-iced if needed.

Customers are also being permitted to use vehicles for temporary sheltering during layovers.

COVID-19 safety regulations remain in effect on all services.

The agency will be updating any weather-related detours on its MetroAlerts service and online on its website.
