Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has been continually giving advice and educating the public on the COVID-19 pandemic.
With COVID-19 cases significantly dropping across the United States, more states are lifting restrictions.
However, the latest face mask guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have confused many Americans.
In an interview, Dr. Fauci said that people across the country are not quite getting the new changes that the CDC has released, Today reported.
“I think people are misinterpreting and thinking that this is a removal for the mask mandate for everyone,” Fauci said. “It’s not, it’s an assurance to those who are vaccinated that they can feel safe outdoors or indoors.”
Just weeks after the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people could safely be outside without a mask, Fauci gave his stamp of approval to the new maskless measures.
Fauci confirmed his belief that fully vaccinated people are free to roam outdoors without a mask.
“It would be a very unusual situation, if you were going into a completely crowded situation where people are essentially falling all over each other, then you wear a mask. But any other time, if you’re vaccinated and you’re outside, put aside your mask. You don’t have to wear it.”
