AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Apple on Monday announced a commitment to invest $430 billion into its U.S. operations, looking to add 20,000 jobs across the country over the next five years.

It's an expansion of the company's 2018 goal of $350 billion over five years.

Construction on the company's new $1 billion, 3 million square foot Austin campus is already underway, with employees expected to start moving in as early as next year.

"It’s been over 25 years since Apple opened its first office in Austin, and we are thrilled to be deepening our partnership with the city and people here, said Kristina Raspe, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Real Estate and Facilities. "Our growing teams are deeply engrained in the community, and we are proud to contribute to Austin’s thriving culture and its economy."

A cornerstone of Monday's announcement is a new campus and engineering hub to be built in the Research Triangle hub of North Carolina. The company says its investment there will create at least 3,000 new jobs in the fields of machine learning, artificial intelligence, software engineering, and other cutting-edge fields.

In addition to the North Carolina hub, Apple will be expanding its teams across Colorado, Massachusetts, Texas, Washington, New York, Southern California and other states.
