AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas Gov. Greg Abbott weighed in on the debate over Austin's homeless camping ban Wednesday, urging the city to reinstate the ban or the state "will do it for them."

The move comes one day after Save Austin Now submitted more than 24,000 signed petitions to the City Clerk's office, aiming to put the issue before voters on the May 1 ballot.

"Contrary to what Austin leaders think," Abbott wrote on Twitter, "no one has a right to urinate & defecate wherever they want."

The petition drive from Save Austin Now is the group's second, after the first was rejected during the city's validation process.
