AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Fire crews are investigating after an elderly woman and her two cats were found dead at the scene of a north Austin condo fire Wednesday afternoon.
According to Austin Fire, crews were called to 12166 Metric Boulevard just after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. That's near Walnut Creek, just south of Cedar Bend Drive.
Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control within minutes of arriving on the scene; during their search, they found the woman in the unit where the fire originated. Two cats also died in the fire, officials said.
At least five other people were displaced due to the blaze, officials said, which affected three additional units.
Fire officials say the cause of the blaze is under investigation. According to crews on the scene, the blaze originated in a unit that did not have a smoke detector.
