AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Fire officials say alligators attacked and killed a dog near a Del Valle neighborhood on Thursday.
Austin Fire says they received a call around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon about the incident, near Berdoll Farms Park. The retention pond backs up to homes along Thome Valley Drive and Lipton Loop. It's also close to Del Valle Elementary, Middle, and High School.
While there are a couple of signs warning residents of the potential for alligators to be in the area, there are no fences or gates surrounding the pond. The park features a walking path, basketball court, and kids' playground.
There have been several reports over the years of alligators in the same neighborhood, going back to 2013.
