AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Authorities are investigating after an on-duty employee at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport was fatally injured after being hit by a fuel truck Tuesday morning.
Austin-Travis County EMS medics were called to the scene at 9:26 a.m. Tuesday morning. The incident happened on the airport's apron, or tarmac, on the secure side of the airport where aircraft park for passengers to board.
Despite medics' lifesaving efforts, the employee was pronounced deceased on the scene a short time later.
"Our thoughts are with the deceased’s loved ones, friends, families and colleagues and we ask our community to keep them in their thoughts," a statement from AUS officials reads.
It's the second death this year at the airport. Earlier this year, an American Airlines employee was killed while driving a vehicle that crashed into a jet bridge.
AUS officials said airport operations were unaffected by the incident.
