AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Energy general manager Jackie Sargent has announced her retirement, effective immediately, the utility announced Friday.
The announcement comes nearly two months after a significant ice storm in February caused significant damage to Austin Energy's distribution system, leaving thousands of customers without power for several days.
"Jackie has been recognized throughout her 40-year career as a visionary leader within the electric industry," interim city manager Jesus Garza said in a memo to Austin City Council members. "Leading Austin Energy through some challenging times Jackie has been consummate professional throughout her tenure."
Sargent first came to Austin Energy in 2010, ascending to the general manager post in 2016.
A release from the utility says Chief Operating Officer Stuart Reilly will fill Sargent's role in an interim capacity.
Sargent's departure is the latest shakeup to hit city leadership this year, including Council's decision to terminate former City Manager Spencer Cronk.
Garza announced a reorganization of his leadership staff, including the departure of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport executive director.
