AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin ISD trustees are poised to take another step forward in their search for the district's next permanent superintendent, even potentially naming a lone finalist for the job later this week.
District officials said Monday that trustees met in executive session on Dec. 7 to review applications for the position. A total of six applications were received, officials said.
The agenda for the Dec. 14 meeting will include an item for trustees to consider naming a lone finalist for the position.
If the board moves ahead with naming a lone finalist for the position, public forums with that finalist will be scheduled for January, ahead of a vote on a contract by the board in late January.
AISD has been without a permanent superintendent since Dr. Stephanie Elizalde was named superintendent of Dallas ISD in May 2022. The district is on its second interim superintendent, after Dr. Anthony Mays left late last year to take the top job in Alief ISD near Houston.
Matias Segura, the district's current interim superintendent, is expected to stay on through the end of the 2023-24 school year.
