AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The City of Austin, along with many other cities across the country, says it's operating at a heightened alert stance Friday as fighting continues in Israel and Gaza.
“We have not received any information to believe that a threat is imminent here in Austin. However, our Austin Police and Homeland Security & Emergency Management departments are on high alert to help prevent and respond to any act of violence that may be attempted,” Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said in a press release Thursday evening.
The Austin Police Department also made a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying the department would be operating on a "tactical alert" Friday.
"APD has several proactive measures in place to ensure the safety and well-being of our community, including directed patrols in multiple locations throughout the city," the post reads.
City and state leaders have both said they do not have any specific, credible threats towards local targets.
APD encourages anyone who sees suspicious activity or knows of any potential threats to call 911.
