AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- A suspect is in custody after exchanging gunfire with Austin Police on the northeast side Wednesday morning.
APD Chief Lisa Davis said a 911 call came in from the 800 block of Camino La Costa just after 8:15 a.m.; officers arrived on the scene within about three minutes.
Davis said a victim was approached by the suspect while sitting in his car; when he stepped out of the vehicle, the suspect punched him twice in the face, put a gun to his head, and pistol-whipped him with the gun.
When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect fired multiple shots at them. One of the officers returned fire. The suspect then fled the scene, which is when a shelter-in-place order was issued for the nearby residential area.
The Austin Police (APD) is investigating an officer involved shooting in the 800 block of Camino La Costa. Media briefing time and location TBD.

Davis said the suspect called 911 saying he had barricaded himself inside an apartment within the complex. SWAT team members were called to the scene and negotiated with the suspect for about an hour and a half; the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
No other injuries were reported, Davis said.
The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative duty pending an investigation into the shooting.
More details, including available body camera video, is expected to be released later this week, Davis said.
