AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is set to experience of its busiest days on Monday, with travelers departing the capital city after the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix.
Officials with the Transportation Security Administration say they expect more than 36,000 flyers to pass through the security checkpoints at AUS, more than eclipsing the previous record of 31,000 flyers following the 2019 F1 race.
Security checkpoints were set to open at 3 a.m. Monday morning.
Officials at Circuit of The Americas said roughly 400,000 people attended events over the three days at the track in southeast Travis County, setting a record for weekend attendance at any F1 circuit.
Airport officials were urging passengers to arrive at least three hours prior to their departure for domestic flights, with even more time for international departures.
Travelers are also reminded to check their carry-on bags and make sure they don't contain any prohibited items, including firearms or liquids exceeding 3.4 ounces. Mobile and online flight check-in tools, along with the self-service boarding pass kiosks, can also save travelers time when they arrive at the airport.
