AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Authorities are investigating what's being called a "hazardous materials incident" at a Texas state office building in downtown Austin Thursday morning.

Austin Fire, Austin-Travis County EMS, and other agencies were called to the William P. Clements Building on West 15th Street just after 9 a.m. Thursday.

Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety say an "envelope with substance" was being investigated at the Texas Attorney General's office. DPS officials said the first and second floors of the building were evacuated.

EMS said three ambulances and two district commanders were on the scene. Three patients, identified as employees of the AG's office, were put through a decontamination procedure, with medics evaluating them for any symptoms. Those three patients were later transported to Dell Seton Medical Center out of an abundance of caution, officials said.

DPS officials said all tests came back negative. The FBI and the DPS Criminal Investigation Division are heading an investigation into the incident.

It was not immediately clear if the letter was related in any way to other incidents across the country Thursday, where officials in at least three states reported receiving letters targeting election workers.
